Best Electric Scooter for 2022

Electric scooters have gotten pretty popular these days, and there's a big market out there to match. There are scooters for lots of different terrains and environments, whether you're looking for something fast and rugged or something sleek to help you commute to work. Finding the best scooter for you will ultimately depend on your specific needs, but overall we'd recommend the Emove Cruiser as the best electric scooter out there -- for most people at least. However, you'll find plenty more great options for different kinds of riders listed below as well.

For instance, last-mile scooters are smaller and are built for short distances at slower speeds but are easier to carry and store. The larger scooters handle bumps better and can travel farther and at higher speeds. The drawback is they are not ideal for carrying when you're not riding them and require a great financial investment.

When deciding between models, consider how far you plan to travel. I recommend an electric scooter that can get you from point A to B and back again without needing a recharge. Scooters, on average, take about 6 hours to charge.

Another consideration is how much of a load you'll be putting on the scooter. The more weight it has to carry, the faster the battery drains. Weight also affects your speed; a scooter with a small 250- or 300-watt motor might not be powerful enough to get you where you're going at top speeds, especially on hills.

On the other hand, more powerful 500- or 1,000-watt motors require a larger battery pack to power them. A larger battery, however, means a heavier scooter and a higher price.

I've included water-resistance ratings when available for each electric scooter. IP ratings (IP stands for "ingress protection") let you know the dust or water resistance of a product. For example, if something has an IP54 rating, the first number after the letters refers to resistance to solids, while the second refers to moisture.

Lastly, if you plan on getting into rideables, be safe about it. Leave enough space between yourself and both cars and riders on plain old human-powered bikes and scooters. Remember you're able to go a lot faster, so ride and pass with caution. Make sure to charge your battery and check on your tires. And, most important, always wear a helmet when you ride.
